With our sale here for another year, it is pleasing to reflect on the cattle market of the past 12 months, with prices remaining solid. The additional weight of the Simmental cross when combined with a strong market have resulted in some very satisfying returns achieved for our clients.

It is these solid commercial returns that are the driver for the resurgence in the Simmental breed. With this in mind we have embarked on a Black Simmental breeding program to be run alongside our Traditional herd, and are enjoying the challenges of producing a ‘Lucrana style’ animal wrapped in a black coat. The first progeny from this program are offered at this year’s sale.

Our polled breeding program continues to gain momentum, with around 80% of this year’s bull offering being polled or scurred. We firmly believe that we have not suffered any decline in productivity or loss of eye appeal as the incidence of the poll gene increases in our herd. We consider the Lucrana Hunter(P) progeny in this year’s catalogue as proof that you can have Polled and Performance in the one package.
